AGRONOMY WEEKLY NEWS

Wheat

Most wheat has perked up now with nitrogen application coming to a close for most in the area.  Not all of the N is on for full rate, and there are several second application of split N to get on yet too, but good headway has been made. You can tell the fields that have not yet gotten any nitrogen as they are sporting a lime-green/yellow leaf. Wheat herbicide timing is now for most fields. As soon as your fields are fit, be sure to get out to spray. When you spray your herbicide, add in the fungicide to give your crop that added protection.

Agronomy Tip of the Week

Usually I throw today's tip of the week in at the end, but since it corresponds so well with our wheat section, I wanted to throw it in here! As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to our agronomy team for any advice on spray recommendations!

We know time is tight for our farmers during the farming season, so this year, we are kicking off a social media campaign to summarize a weekly takeaway or highlight that our agronomists really want to push each week. "Agronomy Tip of the Week".

Mike's Tip of the week: "Don’t undervalue spraying your wheat for weeds. We are seeing heavy pressure in some fields with the mild winter we had. Infinity FX can be used for wheat NOT seeded in clover. Buctril M can be used for fields seeded WITH clover".

Preparation

Nice warm and sunny weather saw some applying fertilizer to other fields in their rotation. A very small amount of beans and corn have been seen planted in the area as well. Persistent rains have slowed things down for many to begin the week, the outlook is looking like we can get back out there before the weekend, so expect a flurry of fertilizer and chemical activity before the predicted weekend rains! Nearly all of the local sugar beet crop is in the ground, with only a few fields yet to be planted.
